Most of the time, I use Google, in no small part because I use Chrome as my default browser and I have both an Android phone and an Android tablet.
Unlike Mr Chong, I have absolutely no faith in Google’s mission; indeed, if it weren’t such a bother, Google’s mission would make me use some other search engine. Google’s mission is to make as much money as it can; those who would accept the “do no evil” mantra the company tries to sell to the public simply 1) aren’t paying attention or 2) don’t mind being a product sold to advertisers.
Having said that, the fact that Google has an incredibly effective marketing department doesn’t particularly offend me, so I take advantage of it and in the meantime avoid doing anything from which it will profit (like let them do any more tracking of my search history than is possible).
Which would I otherwise use? Probably Bing (Yahoo uses Bing’s search, so using Yahoo as a search engine is redundant), but I’d probably also start from Yahoo’s home page to do so. If I didn’t have halfway decent search skills (which means I have a decent understanding of how search engines operate), then I would probably take a long, hard look at duckduckgo.
